What You’ll Learn In Yin Academy
MODULE 1: Intro
Before learning the postures, it’s vital to gain some understanding of where Yin Yoga comes from and what makes it unique. Yin requires a totally different approach to other yoga styles, and Illona shares the insights she has gained from years of studying, practicing, and teaching Yin Yoga.
MODULE 2: Warm Up
Although Yin yoga is known as a gentle style, some postures are more challenging than others. Doing some light movement before the deep, long-held poses will significantly help you let go of any physical or mental tension, so that you can fully surrender to the process. This section covers the best movements and stretches for preparing the body and mind.
MODULE 3: Poses
Here we get into all the juicy Yin postures. While traditionally most yin poses target the lower body, Illona shares some awesome stretches for the upper body too, giving you a complete, full-body practice. Learn how to approach some familiar asanas in the “yin way” and discover some incredible brand new stretches.
MODULE 4: Slow Down
Savasana is essential in all yoga styles, including a slow, passive one like Yin. And as this is such a relaxing practice, you’ll get an extra juicy ending. In this section, Illona shares the different ways you can end your yin practice, besides the traditional Corpse Pose.
About Authors
Tine
Since her early age, Tine has been passionate about movement. Over 15 years ago, she found yoga as an extension to her life as a dancer and began teaching Yoga in the discipline of Ashtanga, Hatha and Vinyasa. Since then, she has become increasingly passionate about Yin Yoga and the intention in and behind it. She has a great deal of experience with working on balance, flexibility and strength.
“Physical performance is important; but it is only a part of the picture. The dancers that will catch your eye are not necessarily the ones with the perfect technique, but the ones that have completely become one with their movements (connecting the body and mind) – surrendering themselves and thus enabling a communication that goes beyond the purely physical.
The practice to me is a constant study, both mentally and physically – listening to your body and mind and trying to act and challenge accordingly.”
Illona
Half Swiss half Mauritian, Illona is a free spirit with a passion for the natural flow of life. With 600 hours of instructor training and over 1500 hours of teaching, she accompanies people through their personal journeys and teaches them to channel both physical and mental strength.
She was born to teach; you will be amazed at how effective and fluid her communication is! Even the hardest position feels easy with her teaching.
